Carissa April- Art to Eat- Edible Artist and FD Member!

Carissa April started working out at Fitness Directions in 2013 but she  moved to Falmouth in 1996 when she was assigned to a Coast Guard cutter in Woods Hole.  A few years later, she met and married Falmouth native, Ron April, a landscape designer & contractor.  A mom of two, and balancing her active-duty career in the Coast Guard–including assignments in Boston, New York and Washington, DC–Carissa officially founded Art to Eat in  2001.    Her small-batch hobby-business specializes in creating custom cookies for special events.  Carissa says people love to use the cookies as favors for weddings, rehearsal dinners, showers and milestone birthday parties.  She has created edible art for celebrations from one dozen to 200, and says people love to have something beautiful and delicious to take home at the end of a special event.  Carissa will retire from the Coast Guard this May after 23 years of service and she looks forward to her next career adventure.  Whatever it is, she promises to keep turning out edible art that makes special events on Cape Cod even sweeter.

LOCAL VENDOR FROM THE COMMUNITY WILL BE ON SITE:
JANE BAKER- Local Artist and FD FitCamper!

Jane Baker has been making woodcuts for over 25 years.  To make a woodcut, she draws her work onto a wooden plank and then carves the image out using hand tools.  She then inks the block and presses the paper by hand with a spoon back.  Each block runs in short editions of 50 or less, some are also hand-colored.

She received her fine arts degree from Smith College in 1991 and her Masters degree in Art Education and Printmaking at Mass College of Art in 1998.  Jane started her teaching career at the Artists Association of Nantucket in 1992 before moving on to teach high school in the Boston Public Schools in 1995. In 2004 she moved home to Woods Hole and took a job as the Studio Art teacher at Falmouth High School.

Jane resides in Falmouth with her husband and two children. Jane shows her woodcuts at the Artists Association of Nantucket and the Woods Hole Handworks Cooperative Art Gallery. She is a member of the AAN, the Massachusetts Art Education Association and is on the board of the Printmakers of Cape Cod.   Her work has been shown in numerous galleries and regional shows over the past three decades.

In addition to her woodcuts, Ms. Baker also produces a line of hand-screened onesies as well as t-shirts based on her woodcut prints.
